I’m thankful that this exists. I’m not sure having a world full of Tom Dyer copycats would be a good one, which is my way of saying he is one of a kind, representing what Seattle music is all about, period. John Book

Vol. 1 is pretty sweet, full of quirky rock/pop songs from a variety of projects – the band BEAUTIMUS deserves its own anthology (It finally got one in 2020 -td). Vol. 2 is wordless more often than not, with a jazzy/folky/psychedelic/experimental smorgasbord of shapes, scents and colors, including an electronic interpretation of a painting. Not as accessible as Vol. 1, perhaps, but just as entertaining if you give it a chance. Michael Toland – The Big Takeover

Includes unlimited streaming of Songs From Academia Vol 2: Instrumental and Spoken Word, 1980-2008 via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

about

1982. “Written” by my wife Vicki – we agreed on certain graphic parameters, she made a painting and I played it. This is one of a couple pieces that involve unsynchronized repetition. The sequence was put into a Casio VL-1, the first keyboard (it was a calculator, too!) made by Casio. The sequence could then be played back at different speeds, octaves and sounds, but nothing would lock together (synchronize). It is the beauty of approximate drift. 4-track, all played by me. Originally released on GM005.
